Kit: MX644D; Dual SugarStrand25X20X06-3W; LifeLink with 3x 470uF Tantalums
A housing underneath the 350 Desiro's motor coach gives access to the 21pin DCC socket in this model - just 2 screws removed
and we're in. Not a lot of room for a speaker though - 28mm round is too wide, and 23mm will be poor performance, so we go for
the biggest dual SugarStrand that we can fit in - only 6mm, but even so, this works quite well in this model and is an easy
installation.
The dual Strand speaker would normally come pre-wired from YouChoos, so don't be alarmed by the photo - this was one fresh off
production!
We need to snip off the 2 screw mounts that are designed to hold a speaker, as they'll just be in the way of the Strand.
Flatten the tray as much as possible - we just took our Dremel to it.
Tin the speaker pads in the model ready to access our speaker wires.
Now solder the speaker wires onto them.
The Strand is a perfect fit here, and just gives enough clearance for the decoder too.
Probably doesn't need it, but we add a little stay-alive too, using our LifeLink PCB and 3x 470uF tall/narrow Tantalum
capacitors, and this fits in the remaining space exactly.
