Kit: MX644C; IceCube25X18X08-1W
Bachmann's 2020 re-released of their Class 24 includes additional lighting features, such as directional cab lights and
functions to disable lighting at each end. YouChoos has a special version of the CL24 project for an MX644C which provides
control for these features.
It also sports a built-in SugarCube style speaker, which is OK, but we'll improve on that with one of our IceCube speakers.
To convert to sound, the MX644C simply plugs in, and there is enough room for the 'sample' capacitor that comes with the
decoder. The factory-fit speaker is withiin the black plastic box.
To transplant our IceCube speaker, we have to gain access to screws underneath the PCB to remove the enclosure for the factory
speaker. This is fairly simple to do.
Once the speaker box is removed, this reveals contact pads where we will solder our IceCube wires to directly.
A little BlackTack to hold the speaker in place - this is as big a speaker as will fit between the components on the model's
PCB.
Body back on, and we know the speaker is clear of the roof, so there shoudn't be any unwated vibrations.
On track, and testing nicely.
