Excellent model, easy to convert to DCC Sound (has speaker on board already, and a Next18 DCC socket, as well as factory-fit
firebox glow light).
The SugarCube type speaker is below the PCB in the bunker. Remove the blanking plate and we can plug in our MS581 sound
decoder.
We are using the 'G' variant of the MS581 which comes with a pair of mini GoldCaps for stay-alive. We test-fit them to see
where they can go - there is not enough space above the decoder without modifying the coal load area, but there is just enough
for a GoldCap either side of the speaker underneath the PCB.
The GoldCaps are connected to the decoder in series (wires are already on the decoder).
Protect the GoldCaps from short-circuits with some Kapton tape, and hang them either side of the speaker using BlackTack
It is the perfect fit and gives an excellent stay-alive in an already excellent model!
