Installing DCC sound in a Hornby OO Class 08 diesel using Zimo MX648 decoder, with SuperCap stay-alive...
Body off, and strip out the 8pin socket to begin with...

Prepare the MX648 decoder, removing unwanted wires, and reversing the direction of the needed wires so that the overall length is
only the length of the decoder's PCB itself... this is needed in this model because the decoder is exactly the right width to fit
across the model where the 8pin socket was, but it marginally too long with the wires going the normal direction. SPEIKOMP kit is
also shown here, assembled and wrapped in Kapton tape.

Hard-wire red+black to pickups and grey+orange to motor terminals, and test direction.

Next prepare the SuperCap6800uF which will fit perfectly in the nose behind the grill. Wrap in Kapton tape too, to avoid shorts.

Next drill a hole to feed speaker wires through to cab. Test motion again, and effect of stay-alive, then slot body back on. Feed
speaker wires through and connect up... we used a Zimo 9mm SugarCube here.

Add crew, wait for their glue to dry, then slide the cab back down, screw everything back together and test.

Runs fantastically with the big stay-alive.
