Example 1: Dapol OO Diesel Class 59 with Zimo MS sound (standard version)

Kit: MS440C, SuperCap17000uF, RE BoomBox 40x20x10 2W

Dapol's 2022/23 release of their Class 59 diesel sports 21pin DCC socket, plenty of space for a speaker, and some nice lighting features.

Some versions even come with a funky smoke generator, which blast a little smoke out when the model sets off. It isn't controlled through DCC though, and our model didn't have it (just an empty chamber where the unit would have been).

Our Zimo MS440C sound decoder plugs in nice and simply.

There is plenty of space for a speaker - enough for a 55x22x10 Zimo or RE box, which sounds excellent.

However, we opt for a smaller speaker in order to leave enough room for a SuperCap for stay-alive, choosing an RE BoomBox 40x20x10, which sounds plenty awesome enough anyway!

The SuperCap is wrapped in Kapton tape and placed between the speaker and the decoder area - all very neat and excellent performance.

Example 2: Smoke Version

Kit: MS440C; Rail Exclusives Chunky BoomBox 55X20X10 2W

This time we have a model that has the onboard smoke generator. No DCC control, but a quick blast each time the motor starts to turn. Frankly, the smoke is a bit gimmicky and not very effective, but it is a bit of extra fun.

We go with the larger Chunky BoomBox 55x20x10mm 2W speaker this time. It is actually slightly too big to fit properly under the supplied bracket, so we had to find some slightly longer screws to keep the bracket, and they don't screw all the way in - probably would have been better off losing the bracket altogether and fixing the speaker in with some BlackTack.
