Hornby OO Southern 2-HAL EMU

Hornby 2-HAL with Sound and Stay-Alive

Kit: MX648; IceCube18X13X09-1W; LifeLink with 17000uF SuperCap; Coach Lighting Strips

Funny how Hornby's Southern EMUs are all so different internally! With the 2-HAL, an 8pin DCC socket sits part-way along the model's floor, so it is a little easier than the 2-BIL.

We add a 2pin mini-connector between the coaches so the single decoder can control interior lighting in both.

Here is our MX648 with the GROUND wire added (grey wire in the lower-left of the picture), ready for stay-alive connection.

A resistor added to the FA1 green wire output, which will be used for the interior lighting (our simple LED lighting strips, covered with Kapton tape to give a real smokey 60's yellowy effect!

Here, stay-alive connection is made - a LifeLink PCB en-route to the SuperCap. All the kit fits flush on the chassis underneath the seating moulding - conveniently raised with a gap between! The SuperCap sits in one of the seating recesses very nicely.

All done, passengers added, and showing off the yellow lighting.
