Hornby OO Black 5 with Zimo MX/MS sound and larger speaker
Kit: MX645 or MS450; Lurve9 speaker
Determined to get a 2W dual driver speaker into this Black 5, we hard-wire the kit in, protect with Kapton tape and go about
putting decoder and speaker into the boiler...
With the decoder's original shrink sleeve removed, unwanted lighting wires taken off, and decoder covered in Kapton, it is now
small enough to slide freely up into the boiler under the chimney. So we make a neat package with the Lurve9 speaker on top and
slide it all forward.
However, the Lurve is just too long to sit in the boiler without hitting the front of the chassis block when we refit the body,
so we take our tungsten carbide Dremel bit and carve a small chunk off the end. Now it goes in perfectly, and the bigger
speaker certainly helps.
