Kit: MX648R; IceCube18X13X10-1W speakear
Plenty of room in the S15 tender for an easy DCC Sound install, so we'll do that first, for those who don't want to make any
modifications...
Here is our MX648R sound decoder and single IceCube18X13X10-1W speaker, plugged straight in and secured with a bit of
BlackTack. The speaker sits down in the well and the decoder tucked in next to it.
Simple, and actually surprisingly loud too, so a very good choice if you don't want to do any surgery..
Kit: MX645 hard-wired; Dual IceCube28X18X10-2W; SuperCap17000uF Stay-Alive
However, there is potential for a much bigger speaker, and a decent SuperCap for stay-alive is always welcome, so we remove the
8pin DCC socket, and hard-wire an MX645, connected with our 17000uF SuperCap, and a dual IceCube28X18X10-2W.
The SuperCap is covered with Kapton tape and stuck down in the well.
The speaker is secured above the capacitor with a little BlackTack, and the decoder toward the rear at an angle so it doesn't
get in the way of the retaining screw column.
No modification required - tender top just fits straight on top. WIth some minor modifications to the coal slope, we could get
something even more substantial in, but it isn't necessary - this is a very impressive sounding setup!
