The ever-handsome Schools Class, this excellent Hornby model has been renamed from "Wellington" to "Epson" by TMC, and here
we'll add DCC Sound and Stay-Alive into the tender.
Top off the tender reveals the 8pin DCC socket. We remove the supression component which is not necessary under DCC and can
cause motor control problems if left in.
Since we want to add the SuperCap for stay-alive, we need to remove the 8pin socket, hard-wire the decoder, and place the
SuperCap where the socket started out.
With the SuperCap loosely in place, we measure up for speaker size, trying the tender top to make sure it goes in vertically. A
dual SugarCube 24X15X08-2W is the best fit for the space.
The decoder has its' function wires trimmed, as we're not adding any lighting, and we simply connect the red+black wires to the
pickups, orange+grey to the motor wires, purples to the speaker, and finally the grey+blue from the other end directly to the
SuperCap.
Metal weight back in, all secured down, and all fits a treat, without having to cut any plastic either!
