Hornby OO LSWR T9 - MS

Hornby T9 with MS Sound

Kit: MS481R; Storm8 speaker; LifeLink with 4x 470uF Tall Tantalums for stay-alive

A revisit to Hornby's T9 for fitment of Zimo MS sound, this is the 8-wheel tender version, so some space, but not a lot of depth.

Example 1

Snip out the suppressor capacitors so they don't interfere with motor control.

Example 1 Example 1

We can simply plug in an MS481R, and make use of one of our new Storm8 speakers, which are a 4 ohm speakers with even more grunt than the IceCube or Breeze range!

Example 1 Example 1

We opt for a relatively small stay-alive due to them being quite compact, and that the model has pickups all round. These are 4 of the tall/narrow 470uF/16V Tantalums connected in parallel. You can't see it in the photos, but a LifeLink connection circuit goes between the decoder and the Tantalums (required because the total is greater than 1000uF - this is the maxinum supported by the MS481 directly).
